Direct Top-Up or a Redeem Code: Which to Choose

In-game currency reaches you by one of two routes, and the listing will say which. They are priced differently, they take different amounts of time, and when they go wrong they go wrong for different reasons.
Direct top-up
The seller credits your account themselves. You give them your in-game player ID, sometimes with a server or region, and the currency appears in your account without you doing anything else.
The advantage is that there is nothing to redeem and nothing to type wrongly. The requirement is that your ID has to be exactly right. A player ID is not a username; it is usually a numeric string shown in the account or profile section of the game, and games in the same family often use different formats. Copy it from the game rather than typing it from memory, and check the server or region field as carefully as the ID itself, because many games run the same ID space across multiple servers.
Send the ID through the order chat after payment is arranged, and check the seller reads it back to you before they start. A top-up sent to the wrong ID has gone to a real person who is not you, and it cannot be pulled back.
Redeem codes and vouchers
The seller sends you a code and you enter it yourself. Nothing about your account is disclosed, which some buyers strongly prefer.
The trade-off is that codes carry the same regional rules as gift cards. A voucher issued for one regional version of a game will not redeem on another, and the refusal is usually permanent for that account. Check the region on the listing against your own account before buying.
Codes also have to be entered accurately. Where a code arrives as an image rather than text, look at whether the seller commits to replacing it if characters are unreadable.
Which is faster
Direct top-up depends on the seller being available to do it, so delivery estimates vary with the time of day. Codes can be delivered the moment payment clears, because the seller is sending something they already hold. If speed matters more than privacy, the quoted delivery time on the listing is a better guide than the method.
What to check before paying
Confirm that the amount described matches what you want. Currency packs are frequently listed in the game's own units rather than a money value, and bonus amounts attached to first purchases usually apply once per account, not once per purchase.
Confirm the server and region. Confirm the method. If it is direct, have your player ID ready and correct.
Then wait for the currency to appear in your own account before confirming the order. Confirming releases the payment, so make sure the balance is visible to you first. If something does not arrive as described, raise it in the order chat while the protection still applies.
